Omar Carmenates - John Psathas Percussion Project.

Omar Carmenates (http://www2.furman.edu/academics/music/meet-our-faculty/Pages/Omar-Carmenates.aspx) Associate Professor of Percussion at Furman University in Greenville, SC, has spent the last several years arranging and adapting my concerti and chamber works for percussion ensemble. Many of these new arrangements are already published and being performed. Chamber works include; Aegean, and Corybas (originally for piano trio), Matre’s Dance, and Drum Dances (originally for drums and piano), Piano Quintet, Jettatura (originally for solo piano), and Muisca (originally for two guitars). The concerti being arranged for large percussion ensemble and soloist are Planet Damnation (solo timpani), Djinn (solo marimba), View From Olympus (solo piano and solo percussion), and Three Psalms (solo piano). The final phase of this massive project is making and releasing recordings of the works. The chamber works album is recorded and mixed, and so far Djinn, from the concerto album, has been recorded. These recordings are scheduled for release over the 2018-2019 period. This project has been a singular honour for me. Omar’s understanding and response to these works, and what he has achieved in translating them into the percussion realm, has been miraculous and I am very excited about the upcoming recording releases.
